WGMA Approves PPP on Abattoir
The General Assembly of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA) has given the nod to the Municipal Assembly to have a Public Private Partnership (PPP) to manage the newly constructed abattoir in Gbawe.
At a special general assembly meeting held on Thursday, 11th August 2022, at the Assembly Hall, the honourable Assembly Members, unanimously, agreed to engage Akwaaba Feeds Limited (AFL), a privately owned limited liability company, to partner the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly in the management of the ultramodern pig abattoir.
Flanked by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor and the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mrs. Mercy Quansah Ogoe, the Presiding Member (PM) of the Municipal Assembly, Hon. Andrew Oppong Amoako, set the ball rolling after the opening courtesies.
After a briefing on the history of the abattoir, Hon. Andrew Oppong Amoako (PM) sought the views of honourable members on the agenda.
After a lengthy debate, a member moved a motion for the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA) to partner the Akwaaba Feeds Limited (AFL) in the management of the abattoir.
The motion was seconded by an honourable member and approved by the house.
The name of the facility would be the Gbawe Pig Abattoir (GPA).
It was agreed that the agreement will be subject to renewal or abrogation should the need arise.
The abattoir, it was agreed, would test run for a three month period within which all rough edges would be smoothened.
The abattoir is expected to target a daily slaughter of between sixty (60) and one hundred (100) pigs.
