Akwaaba Feeds Ltd and Water Research Institute have signed an MoU to develop Water Hyacinth into a feed additive to reduce production costs. Mr Slyvester Copper, Chief Executive Officer of Akwaaba Feeds, signed the MoU on behalf of the Company, While Prof. Mike Osei-Atweneboana, Director of Water Research Institute, signed on behalf of the Institute. The Use of Water Hyacinth as a feed additive forms part of Akwaaba Feeds’ contribution and commitment to sustainable agriculture.
Water hyacinth infestation poses a number of serious, problems to water bodies in the country. It reduces the surface areas of the river or lake and increases water loss to the atmosphere by three to five times through accelerated evapotranspiration.
Present at the signing ceremony were Ernest Agyenim-Boateng, Executive Chairman Akwaaba Feeds Ltd, Dr Anthony Yaw Karikari, Deputy Director, Water Research Institute and Dr Gloria Addico, Head, Environmental Biology and Health Division Water Research Institute.
